Silkeborg Uldspinderi was established in the Danish city of Silkeborg in 1987. However, the company draws threads back to the 1940s, when the family’s first wool spinning mill was founded.
Since then, raw wool and alpaca have been the focus of Silkeborg Uldspinderi, and the fascination of these unique natural materials has remained intact over the years.
In 2011, Silkeborg established an office in Peru to organize the alpaca business and provide the best products, keeping the basis of flexibility, to our European organization.
Today, we offer our products to the entire American continent. We supply pure alpaca blankets, shawls, cushions, and fabrics for the fashion, interior, home textile, hotel, and restaurant industries.
Silkeborg is a strong financial AAA-rated organization that assures you safe trading.
More than 25 years offering high-quality products, from small stores to the biggest brands.
Of our complete line, which allows us to attend deliveries in a short time.
Alpacas, also known as Lama pacos, are one of the most beautiful and gracious species on Earth. It is a South American camelid related to the llamas, guanacos, and vicuñas. The alpacas have been the treasure of the Andes for over 6000 years. The Peruvian region is the one that currently houses the largest population of alpacas in the world.
The alpaca lives on the world’s roof in the Andes in altitudes that range from 3,500 up to more than 4,500 meters above sea level. There, it adapts to temperatures fluctuating from -20°C to +30°C in less than 24 hours. The alpaca copes with it with its fantastic fur, which consists of soft air-filled fibers that insulate against both heat and cold.
Sheared each spring, alpaca fleece has up to 22 natural colors ranging from white to various shades of gray, brown, and black. The alpaca fleece serves like a natural thermostat, keeping you at a steady temperature. It is naturally hypo-allergenic (lanolin-free), not itchy, does not retain water, and is not flammable.
The yarn used in our products is obtained from the finest parts of the fleece. Baby alpaca and Premium alpaca, both used in our products, have several outstanding properties: light, durable, and versatile.
Silkeborg Uldspinderi has gently transferred this unique capacity to its products together with two other special characteristics of the alpaca fibers: softness and flexibility.
